VISUAL LITERACY
When we are being History Detectives we are using our visual literacy skills.
Our eagle eye is essential to help us SEE, THINK, WONDER.
When we say we are using our eagle eye that means we are going to look very closely at the visuals to help us think about and understand the connections between the words and pictures.
SEE: WHAT DO YOU SEE?
Take the time to slow down and look very carefully. Did you know that 90% of our information is received through our eyes? Now it is time for close looking - that means building up a mental catalogue of all the elements and details.
THINK: WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT?
This is where we organise our thoughts about what we have seen, we begin to describe or list the details we see in the pictures. We think about what it reminds us of, making connections with our past knowledge.
WONDER: WHAT DOES IT MAKE YOU WONDER?
This is where we start to ask questions about what we are thinking, like why was it that way? How is it different to now? How did it impact on day to day life?
Use your visual literacy skills and eagle eye when looking at these photographs from the past. The SEE, THINK, WONDER, strategy has been modelled.
You can download the see, think, wonder graphic organiser to use at home.
