A family goal could be to make maths 'real' and 'meaningful' by pointing it out in the world around you. This could include checking prices at the supermarket, counting pocket money, counting mailboxes while driving along and discussing odd and even numbers, measuring and weighing ingredients while cooking. Also, keep it fun by playing maths games.
Some handy resources
The 100's chart (if it extends to 120, it's even better) This is a terrific resource to have at home and can be useful in so many ways. * counting by one * counting by two, try starting at different places * counting by five, ten, twenty * finding patterns * finding one more, one less, ten more, ten less * counting backwards
The two buttons below are links to an online splat square 100's chart. A youtube tutorial gives a demonstration of some possible uses.
Counting The counting song is useful as it models not only the numerals, pronunciation but the written number as well. Particularly useful for distinguishing between "teen" and "ty" ie fifteen and fifty.
